To become an Enrolled Agent, you must meet three key criteria: Education, Eligibility, and Exam requirements.

Education
• No prior qualifications are required to become an Enrolled Agent (EA).
• Candidates may be any graduate with a fundamental understanding of taxes and accounting.
• Candidates must demonstrate their competency in tax-related matters.

Eligibility
• Candidates must obtain a PTIN to sit for the SEE exam. When applying for a PTIN, a background check is performed before issuing a PTIN to applicants.
• The minimum age requirement for candidates is eighteen.

Exam
• The Enrolled Agent examination comprises of three parts:
Part 1 (Individuals),
Part 2 (Businesses), and
Part 3 (Representation, Practices, and Procedures).
• Candidates will have three years to complete the remaining parts of the EA exam after passing the first part.
